Steering rack/housing, repairing
1. End housing, right side with tube
Drive out with drift, assemble with 0-rings and grease lightly before installing
2. 0-ring 34 x 2mm*
3. 0-ring 30.3 x 2 mm*
4. Shims
5. Support ring
Remove together with 0-ring and piston rod seal.
6. Steering rack
when installing, threaded holes must face forward
7. Self locking nut 20 Nm (15 ft lb)
Removing: clamp rack in vise (use jaw covers)
8. Piston

11. Steering gear housing
12. Self locking bolt 8 Nm (71 in lb)*
13. Flange
Connect both oil pressure lines to valve/steering housing before installing
14. Damper*
Install into steering housing
15. 0-ring 40 x 1.5 mm*
16. End housing, left side
Parts marked with an asterisk * are supplied in repair kit, Part No.443 498 020 B
Warning: Do not use any fasteners that are worn or deformed in normal use. Many fasteners are designed to be used only once and will become
unreliable and may fail when used a second time. This is includes, but is not limited to, nuts, bolts, washers, self locking nuts or bolts, circlips,
cotter pins. Always replace these fasteners with new parts
Note: The steering gear can also be repaired using a remanufactured short rack assembly.
