Condition
Alternator V-belt may slip under extreme load conditions.
Important
The following procedure must be followed exactly as described. Failure to follow all instructions will diminish the effectiveness of this repair.
Service
Alternator V-belt, adjusting
Alternator V-belt tension should be adjusted by using a inch pound torque wrench and a 22 mm crowfoot in combination with the toothed rack, and
tensioning gear (6).

loosen mounting bolts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 (for toothed rack) until alternator can be pivoted with one hand.
-
rotate tensioning gear 6 until proper deflection is obtained.

tensioning gear (6) torque specifications:
New belt
8 N-m (70.7 in.lbs.)
Used belt
4 N-m (35.4 in.lbs.)
-
tighten bolt (6) while maintaining proper torque on gear (6) 35 N-m (26 ft.lbs.)
-
verify V-belt deflection at center point of belt between pulleys
New belt
approx. 2.0 mm (5/64 in.)
Used belt
approx. 5.0 mm (13/64 in.)
