Oil pressure and oil pressure switches, checking

The oil pressure switches are located on the left side of the oil pan behind the oil filter.

A - 1.8 bar oil pressure switch (white connector)

B - 0.3 bar oil pressure switch (blue connector)

Vehicles with an oil pressure gauge include the pressure sensor as an integral part of the pressure switch/sender (black connector).

Requirements

^

Oil level must be OK

^

Mini Check/Auto Check system indicators (symbols) must be OK

^

Engine Coolant Temperature must be 80°C (176°F) minimum, the radiator cooling fan must come on at least once.

Oil pressure, checking

Vehicles with Automatic transmission:

-

Remove the oil cooler line bracket.

To provide clearance for connecting pressure Tester VAG 1342

All vehicles:

-

Remove the 0.3 bar oil pressure switch (B).

-

Install VAG 1342 oil pressure Tester in place of the oil pressure switch (B) do NOT connect the wiring.

Start the engine and let idle.

-

Raise the engine speed to 2000 RPM.

Oil pressure must be 4.5 to 6.0 bar on the Tester display.
