Power Steering Pump: Service and Repair
NOTE: Power steering hydraulic system operates with power steering fluid, Part No. G 002 000, or equivalent.
1. Pressure hose
Disconnect to check pump pressure
To replace, remove brake booster
Note different types of O-rings and copper seals
2. Bolt/washer assembly 10 Nm (82 inch lbs.)
3. Mounting hole on intake manifold, refer to To mount pressure hose
4. Hydraulic pump
Check supply pressure. See: Testing and Inspection
Do not repair
Before removing suction and pressure hoses from pump, install hose clamps, Snap-On Model YA2850 or equivalent, to suction and pressure hoses
Before installing hose on the suction side, fill pump with power steering fluid and turn by hand until fluid comes out of pressure side
5. Pulley
Remove to remove hydraulic pump, by loosening tension on ribbed belt, refer to Fig. 1
6. Bolt 25 Nm (18 ft lbs)
Loosen before removing pump
7. Bolt/washer assembly 25 Nm (18 ft lbs)
8. Bolt 25 Nm (18 ft lbs)
9. Bracket for hydraulic pump
To remove pump, remove bolt/washer assemblies -7- and bolt/washer assemblies -17- so pump can be removed together with bracket
Sliding bushing installed on left is not used on this model
10. Ignition coils with bracket
Disconnect ignition wires from Ignition coils and remove from bracket for hydraulic pump
11. Bolt 25 Nm (18ft lbs)
Remove and take off bracket with Ignition coils
12. Banjo bolt 50 Nm (37 ft lbs)
