Center Differential Fluid: Testing and Inspection

Checking center differential

A. Front differential
B. Center differential

Note:  Viewed from left (driver's) side

Note:  The gear oil tn the center differential contains an additive added during production which is not available from a dealer. Only drain gear oil
if the repair procedure you are carrying out absolutely requires it.
If the center differential was filled with gear oil available from the dealer, this will not affect service life.

Checking

Depending on engine version, remove crossmember located beneath exhaust system and exhaust front pipe.
Remove Check/fill plug (B).
Check gear oil level.
Oil should extend up to bottom edge of filler opening
Add suitable SAE 75 W 90 gear oil if necessary.
install new sealing washer for oil filler plug.
Install filler plug.
Tighten check/fill plug to 30 Nm (22 ft lb)
