Replace Air Bag Sensor Module

Dear Audi Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Audi has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some 1989 to 1993 model Audi vehicles. Our records show that your Audi
is one of the vehicles affected by this condition.

Defect Description

Audi has determined that some air bag sensor modules installed in affected vehicles may not comply with Audi's durability standards over the lifetime of
the vehicle. In the event the module malfunctions, the air bag in your vehicle could be deployed in the absence of impact or accident. Deployment of the
air bag without warning could cause you to lose vehicle control with the risk of injury.

It is important to note that the defect does not affect the performance of your vehicle's air bag restraint system m the event of an impact or collision.

Remedy

Your authorized Audi dealer will replace the sensor module with an improved unit.

Repair Schedule

Improved replacement sensor modules as well as all necessary repair instructions will be at your authorized Audi dealer during the week of October 20,
1997.

What You Need To Do

Please contact the Service Department of your authorized Audi dealer to schedule an appointment as soon as possible. When you deliver your Audi for
recall service, please present the enclosed authorization form to the dealer's service representative.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

If your Audi has equipment installed by sales or service facilities other than an authorized Audi dealer (such as an alarm system, cellular telephone,
or disc player) which needs to be removed in order to provide access to the sensor module, please inform your dealer of any such "add-on" item upon
making the appointment for the recall work, so that additional repair time can be scheduled. The cost of removal and reinstallation of such equipment
will, of course, be your responsibility and cannot be borne by Audi.

Anticipated Repair Time

The repair service is expected to take approximately two hours. However, your dealer may need your vehicle for a longer period. The work will, of
course, be performed at no charge.

Precautions

Please contact your Audi dealer promptly whenever the air bag warning light on the instrument panel remains on for more than 10 seconds after you
start the vehicle or the light flickers while you are driving.

Lease Vehicle

If the vehicle identified in this recall is a leased vehicle and you, the Lessor and registered owner receive this notice, please forward this information by
first class mail to the Lessee.
