Caution

Whenever possible, tow with front wheels off ground.

^

If a car with automatic transmission must be towed with rear wheels lifted because of extensive damage, dollies are required under front wheels to
avoid damage to transmission due to lack of lubrication.

^

Car may be lifted in rear and moved to position for front hookup.

Front hookup

Note

Car cannot be towed by lifting front with conventional sling-type tow truck equipment.

to tow, use wheel dollies

if car is towed by tow bar, chain, cable or rope, be sure shift lever is in neutral or automatic transmission selector lever in position "N"

do not tow car with automatic transmission faster than 30 mph (50 kmh) or farther than 30 miles (50 kilometers)

exceeding these limits will damage automatic transmission due to lack of lubrication

Caution

Always observe state laws and municipal ordinances governing towing.

Rear hookup

Caution

Wheel dollies must be used on front wheels when towing car from rear.

attach J-hooks to rear axle close to spring support

place 50" 4 x 4 under spare tire well and against rear tire

-

place tow bar against 4 x 4

-

double wrap chains on tow bar

-

attach safety chains to rear axle
