Fuel Distributor

The fuel distributor and injectors should supply the same amount of fuel to each engine cylinder. Unequal volume can cause poor idle and part-throttle
performance.

Fuel volume is checked with special tools US 4480 and V.W. 1348/1:

Remove injectors from cylinder head.
Place injectors in US 4480 as shown.
Activate fuel pump, see Fuel Pump Relay.

Note: Disconnect electrical connection on auxiliary air regulator so that this unit will not heat up.

Install VW 1348/1 on air sensor as shown.
Push sleeve down to stop.
Turn adjusting screw until magnetic end of sleeve touches bolt in center of air sensor plate.
Turn adjusting screw to move sensor until at least one injector just begins to spray fuel.
Turn fuel pump off.
Empty US 4480.
Lift sleeve on V.W. 1348/1 to first stop (simulated idle).
Run fuel pump until any of the cylinders in US 4480 is filled to 20 ML.

Difference between the highest and lowest cylinder should be 3 ml. or less.
Injectors should spray fuel in a cone shaped mist.

Empty US 4480.
Lift sleeve on V.W. 1348/1 to last stop (simulated full throttle).
Run fuel pump until any of the cylinders in US 4480 is filled to 80 ml.

Difference between highest and lowest cylinder should be 8 ml. or less.
