Fuel Pressure: Testing and Inspection
Installing and Removing Pressure Gauge

1. Relieve fuel pressure. The fuel accumulator maintains 3.0 bar (44 psi) of pressure on the fuel system. The pressure should be relieved properly to

avoid spraying fuel all over, especially if the engine is hot.

2. To relieve pressure:

a.

Remove fuel tank cap.

b.

Remove the fuel line from a convenient injector.

c.

Place the end of the line in a fuel proof container.

d.

Remove the cover from the air flow meter and lift the sensor plate to release the pressure through the open injector line.

3. Connect the pressure gauge in series between the control pressure regulator line, and the top of the fuel distributor.
4. Remove the fuel pump relay. Using a jumper wire, energize the fuel pump. Check gauge connections for leaks.  
5. Open and close the valve on the pressure gauge several times to bleed the system of air.
6. After testing is completed, to remove the gauges:

a.

Close the valve.

b.

Remove the hose connected to the valve.

c.

Place a container under the gauge and open the valve.

d.

After all the fuel has drained, remove the hoses from the vehicle.

e.

Reconnect all disconnected fuel hoses, remove the fuel pump relay jumper wire and install the fuel pump relay.
