IDLE ADJUSTMENTS

(For cars with oxygen sensor system see oxygen sensor system - checking)

Correct CO adjustment in the CIS system is especially important since it affects not only the air/fuel mixture at idle but throughout the entire operating
range.

The relationship of the control plunger to the sensor plate can be changed by an adjustment screw on the two-piece air sensor lever: turning the CO
adjustment in raises the control plunger in the fuel distributor, supplying more fuel in the injectors and raising CO%.

CIS idle speed adjustment is just like other fuel injection equipped vehicles: the adjustment controls the amount of air bypassing the throttle valve.
Normally at idle the throttle valve is fully closed: "backing out" the adjustment screw enlarges the by-pass drilling and simulates opening the throttle
valve slightly so that idle speed is increased.

Run engine until engine is at operating temperature.
Turn headlights on high beam to load engine slightly thru alternator.
Turn idle speed screw until engine reaches 925 rpm (850-1000 rpm).
Remove rubber plug on air sensor.
Insert tool P377 - or other long, 3 mm allen wrench.
Turn CO adjustment screw:

in - raises CO% 
out - lowers CO%
