Load Compensator: Testing and Inspection

CHECKING

1984-85 4000, Coupe & All 80/90 Models

    Brake pressure regulator is mounted on right rear (4000, Coupe & 80/90) of body and operated by spring attached to rear axle. 

1.

Firmly depress pedal once.

2.

Release pedal suddenly and ensure lever on pressure regulator moves. It is normal for small amounts of brake fluid to escape through vent hole. If
in doubt, proceed to step 3.

3.

Connect tool US1016 according to manufacturer's instructions and bleed tool.

4.

Depress brake pedal until front axle pressure gauge reads 1450 psi and hold for 5 seconds.

5.

If rear pressure reading varies more than 145 psi within 5 seconds, replace pressure regulator.

ADJUSTING

1985-88 4000 & Coupe, All 80/90 Models

1.

Ensure brake system is properly filled and bled.

2.

Press lever on brake pressure regulator toward rear of vehicle to stop.

3.

Loosen nut and adjust spring between brake pressure regulator and plastic roller behind nut so no play exists.

4.

Torque nut to 18 ft.lbs.

5.

If necessary, pressure test adjustment can be performed as described for 1984 models, noting the following: 

a. When gauge on left caliper reads 725 psi, gauge on right wheel cylinder should rear 741-616 psi.
b. When gauge on left caliper reads 1450 psi, gauge on right wheel cylinder should read 783-1037 psi.
