SAFETY ADVISORY

Millions of consumers purchase and use aerosol tire inflator/sealer products each year to seal and inflate a flat tire. Many of these products may contain a
pressurized propellant which includes propane or butane gas. Propane and butane gases are highly flammable.

Before repairing a tire, we recommend the following precautions:

Assume that any tire/wheel assembly you handle, or are called upon to repair, contains an extremely flammable or explosive gas resulting from
the use of an aerosol tire inflator and sealer to temporarily repair a flat tire.

Keep sparks, fire or other ignition sources that could explode the gas, away from the tire repair area.

Inflate and deflate the tire four (4) times before attempting to break the bead.

Never repair a tire or rim before completely removing the tire from the wheel. This includes welding, using a tire reamer, rasp, plug or similar
tool.

This advisory is based on information from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission which has received reports of more than 6 deaths as
well as serious injuries associated with the explosive ignition of propellant gas in tires which were repaired. The injuries have included brain
damage, loss of vision, loss of hearing and broken bones.

Make sure that your technicians treat every tire and wheel assembly as if an inflator/sealer with a flammable gas was used and follow the
precautions described above.

Post a copy of this bulletin near your tire changing equipment and immediately advise all appropriate personnel in your dealership of this
potential safety hazard.
