Vehicles with 5-cylinder engines are now produced with a new shift rod coupling. This new coupling reduces the transmission of noise to the
vehicle interior.

The modified coupling cannot be disassembled but must be completely replaced when necessary.

Service Installation

The new shift rod coupling can be service installed in vehicles with either a 4 or 5-cylinder engine. The following parts must be replaced:

Identification

The color coding of the rod and support has been changed to the following:

5-speed trans. 093: white/blue stripe 5-speed trans. 013: yellow/blue stripe

Lubrication

MoS2 grease has been used to lubricate shift linkages since late 1984 production.

Use MoS2 grease, Part No. G 000 602, to lubricate shift linkages in service.

Linkage which is still lubricated with white lubricating paste should be cleaned before applying MoS2 grease.
