CAUTION:
-
Remove only one piston at a time, install a suitable clamping device to hold second piston while first piston is being removed.
-
When re-using brake pads, mark to prevent changing inside to outside or from one caliper to another. Mixed pads can cause uneven braking.
1. Place wooden block between caliper piston and caliper housing, then apply compressed air to brake line bore to force first piston from housing.
2. Repeat step 1 for second piston.
3. Remove piston seals from caliper piston bores using a plastic rod.
NOTE:
If either caliper pistons or caliper piston bores are corroded, pitted or scored, affected part(s) must be replaced.
4. Slide dust cap onto pistons, then lubricate pistons and caliper piston bores lightly with a suitable brake cylinder paste.
5. Install piston seals into caliper bores, then lubricate with clean brake fluid.
6. Install first piston into caliper bore and insert inner lip of dust cap into groove on caliper.
7. Open bleeder screw, then press first piston into caliper as far as possible, ensuring outer lip of dust cap slips into groove in piston.
8. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for second caliper piston.
