Low or no heat output could be caused by a binding Bowden cable preventing the programmer from regulating the heater control flap.
Two modifications are now used in production:
^
Bowden cable with anti-kink sleeve installed as of March, 1984
^
programmer with modified resistor and auxiliary spring installed as of February, 1984 VIN E 125106.
In response to complaints of low or no heat output on earlier vehicles, perform the following:
Work sequence
-
replace Bowden cable from programmer to heater control flap with anti-kink cable P/N 443 820 837B (arrow one)

remove assist spring from heater flap connecting arm and save (arrow two)
-
test and evaluate system
If problem is still present, continue as follows:
-
replace programmer with new version (part number is unchanged.)
