NOTE:  If pressure relief valve is not working correctly, there may be partial failure of power steering assistance

Modified power steering pump for 1986 MY

A modified power steering pump, Part No. 034 145 155, is installed in production beginning with the 1986 Model Year (5000S Turbo and 5000CS
Turbo Quattro only).

NOTE:  If necessary, the new type pump can be installed in all vehicles, including these built prior to Model Year 1986.

CAUTION:  The old type pump, Part No.035 145 155 G, must NOT be installed in vehicles from Model Year 1986 onward.

The tightening torque for the pressure accumulator hose to steering pump gland nut has changed from 15 Nm to 25 Nm (18 ft lb) for the new pump.

The tightening torque for the pressure hose to steering pump gland nut has changed from 25 Nm to 35 Nm (29 ft lb) for the new pump. An "5" or
"countersink" is stamped on the nut head of this fitting and should be used to identify the new torque requirement.
