Hall Effect Sensor: Testing and Inspection

Hall sending unit, checking

Work sequence

Note:  Ignition coil wire from distributor must always be grounded with jumper wire when checking Hall sending unit.

Remove protective cover from Hall sending unit connector on ignition distributor and unplug connector from unit (arrow)

-

Connect voltmeter to terminals 1 and 3 of connector D

-

Switch ignition ON

Specifications: minimum 9 V 

If specifications NOT OK

-

Check for open circuit in wiring to Hall sending unit according to current flow diagram

If specification OK

-

Switch ignition OFF

-

Move back protective cover on Hall sending unit connector

-

Connect voltmeter across wires for terminals 1 and 2

-

Plug connector back into Hall sending unit on distributor

-

Switch ignition ON

-

Remove distributor cap rotor and dust cover

Note:  Distributor cap retaining clips must not interfere with Hall sending unit during test.

Using tool 2079, turn crankshaft until trigger wheel window (arrow) is clear of Hall sender
