NOTE: The next steps are done from inside the car.

Remove under dash cover and pull carpet out of the way. Next, remove protective cover plates to expose the steering flange tube.

7.

Remove bolt from clamp on flange and remove from steering rack splined shaft.

From engine bay, pull steering rack free of mounts. Rack is removed through right side fender opening , if necessary brake lines may need to be
repositioned for more clearance during rack removal.

INSTALLATION

1.

Slide steering rack through right front fender opening.

2.

Position rack on mounts, install mounting bolts but do not tighten. With steering assembly free of strain, tighten left bolts first, then tighten long
bolt on right side.

3.

Install tie rods and tie rod bracket. Install tie rod bracket with centering hole to left side, be sure to use new lock plate.

NOTE: Do not tighten the mounting bolts for tie rods to rack mounting until weight of vehicle is on the wheels.

4.

Install pressure line to steering rack, then install return line from reservoir, install reservoir to mount.

NOTE: To ease assembly of banjo fittings to steering rack, super glue the inside sealing washer to the banjo fitting.

5.

Install outer right side tie rod to steering arm, mount wheel assembly, lower car. Now tighten tie rod mounting bolts to steering rack.

6.

From inside the car, install the flange tube to the steering column, make sure steering wheel and tires are straight, slide flange onto splined shaft,
making sure flat on shaft mates with gap on flange.

7.

Slide flange to adjust distance between steering wheel and column switch assembly, tighten clamp bolt.

8.

Install cover over shaft, position carpet to original position, and install under dash cover.

9.

Top reservoir with hydraulic oil, start engine, check for leaks. Bleed air from system by turning steering wheel from lock to lock slowly.

NOTE: Be sure to use AUDI HYDRULIC OIL (part No. G 002 000) only, or damage to the central hydraulics can result.
