Hall Effect Sensor: Description and Operation

Hall Sending Unit

Located in the distributor is a device called the Hall Sending unit. The Hall Sending unit consists of a semiconductor with integrated circuitry and a
magnet. The trigger wheel on the distributor shaft acts as a magnetic barrier in the Hall Sending unit. The purpose of the Hall Sending unit is to generate
a voltage pulse which is used to trigger the ignition control switch.

When the trigger wheel blocks the Hall Sending unit, it interrupts the magnetic lines of force. The Hall Sender then sends a voltage signal to the ignition
control unit. The ignition control unit then triggers the ignition coil.

The magnetic force lines can flow again once the edge of the trigger wheel has moved roughly 1.5mm past the center of the Hall Sending unit. The Hall
voltage rises and the transmition voltage drops to 0.0. The Primary current is cut off and ignition occurs.
