push down with suitable wood stick against valve lifter as shown

if valve lifter can be pushed down, lifter must be replaced
CAUTION
Hydraulic valve lifters are stored upside down. After replacing lifters DO NOT start engine for approx. 30 minutes to allow lifters to bleed down.
