adjust idle speed (arrow)
-
specified value: 800 ± 50 RPM
NOTE: Radiator fan must not be running while testing or adjusting.
Mean value of specification should be used for adjusting value.

switch ignition OFF
OXS-DUTY CYCLE, MEASURING
-
use VW 1367 for test
-
disconnect test cable from contact 1 of ignition coil and connect to blue/white wire of Oxygen sensor
-
disconnect terminals from cylinder 1 ignition cable and TDC sensor
-
push Dwell Angle % button on tester
-
start engine and let idle
-
raise engine speed above 2,000 rpm for five seconds
NOTE: Pay no attention to RPM displayed on tester
-
check OXS-duty cycle
-
OXS-duty cycle must read 25 - 65% (reading must fluctuate)
-
CO value 0.3 - 1.2% (Oxygen sensor connected)
NOTE: If CO value exceeds 1.2% with OXS-duty cycle from 25 - 65%, then check for the following:

Ignition system not operating properly

Exhaust system leaking
-
Fuel distributor improperly distributing fuel (check and repair any or all as necessary) If OXS-duty cycle is less than 25% or exceeds 65%, then a
CO adjustment is necessary. Proceed as follows:
