Canister Purge Solenoid: Description and Operation

    The carbon canister shut-off valve is a normally closed solenoid valve which opens when energized by the fuel control unit. When the engine is off,
the valve is closed to prevent accumulation of fuel vapors in the intake system that may create a hard start condition when the engine is restarted while
hot. When the engine is started, the valve energizes to allow purging of the vapors in the canister through the restrictor elbow on the intake air boot.
