Axle Beam: Service and Repair

Fig. 3  Exploded View Of Rear Axle Assembly

     Refer to Fig. 3 during replacement procedures.

1.

Loosen lug nuts, then raise and support rear of vehicle.

2.

Remove rear wheels.

3.

Remove compensator bar, then remove handbrake cable from clips at support bracket.

4.

Pry handbrake cable guide sleeves out of support brackets.

5.

Disconnect brake lines from brake hoses.

6.

Remove nuts from trailing link mounting bolts. Do not remove the bolts.

7.

Disconnect brake pressure regulator spring from rear axle.

8.

Remove Panhard rod securing bolt.

9.

Remove suspension strut mounting bolts from bottom.

10.

Remove trailing link mounting bolts (two mechanics required).

11.

Remove rear axle.

12.

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Bleed brake system and adjust parking brake.
b. Tighten nuts and bolts to specifications.
