Secondary Air Injection Pump: Testing and Inspection
CHECKING MOTOR

Initiate Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) and actuate AIR pump relay -J299-. Refer to On Board Diagnosis. See: Computers and Control
Systems/Testing and Inspection/Scan Tool Testing and Procedures/Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM)

Output DTM actuates secondary air injection pump motor for 10 seconds. Running noise of motor can be heard.
If the AIR pump motor does not run, check control as follows:

Switch ignition OFF.

Disconnect 2-pin harness connector from AIR pump motor.

Connect VAG 1527B voltage tester to both terminals of disconnected harness connector using adapters from VW 1594 connector test kit

Switch ignition ON.

Initiate Output DTM and actuate AIR pump relay -J299-. Refer to On-Board Diagnostics.

LED must light up for approx. 10 seconds.
If LED lights up (voltage supply OK):

Replace AIR pump motor -V101-.
If LED does NOT light up:
-
Check wiring between AIR pump motor and AIR pump relay, as well as Ground (GND) connection, using wiring diagram.
If there is no malfunction in the wiring:
-
Check secondary air injection pump relay.
