The piston ring end gap specifications listed in the repair manuals are incorrect.
Service
Checking piston ring end gap

Push piston ring squarely into lower end of cylinder until it is approx. 15 mm from bottom edge.
The correct piston ring end gap specifications are as follows:
Top
= 0.35 mm - 0.50 mm
Center
= 0.50 mm - 0.70 mm
Bottom
= 0.25 mm - 0.50 mm
Wear limit
= 1.0 mm
