Oil Pressure Sender: Testing and Inspection

Oil pressure switches, checking

Vehicles with Mini-Check system

- 

Remove instrument cluster ~ page 90-1.

- 

Disconnect 14-pin harness connector from instrument cluster.

- 

Connect VAG 1598/13 adapter to 14-pin connector.
Do not connect adapter to instrument cluster; leave the instrument cluster disconnected.

- 

Connect VAG1598/13 adapter to VAG1598 test box.

 
 
Checking 2.5 bar oil pressure switch -A- 

- 

Set digital multimeter (Fluke 83 or equivalent) to resistance measuring range (Ohm).

- 

Connect multimeter between VAG1598 test box socket 14 and Ground (GND).
Specification: infinite ohms (no continuity)

- 

Start engine and raise engine speed above 2800 RPM. 
Specification: 0 Ohms (continuity) 

- 

Stop engine (switch ignition off).

 
 
Checking 0.3 bar oil pressure switch -B-

- 

Set digital multimeter (Fluke 83 or equivalent) to resistance measuring range (Ohm).

- 

Connect multimeter between VAG1598 test box socket 17 and Ground (GND).
Specification: 0 Ohms (continuity) 

- 

Start engine.
Specification: infinite ohms (no continuity) 

- 

Stop engine (switch ignition off).
