| At the front of the driver side footwell, pull the floor covering aside at the transmission tunnel and unscrew the nut -1-. |
WARNING Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example to unplug the connector), the person concerned must „discharge static“, for instance by briefly grasping hold of the door striker plate. |

| At the front of the passenger side footwell, pull the floor covering aside at the transmission tunnel. |

| Unfasten the catch at the connector -arrow- and unplug the connector -5-. |

| Unscrew the nuts -3, 4-. |
–
| Lift the airbag control unit -2- off the studs and take out towards the passenger side. |

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following: |
Note Make sure the connectors are pressed on as far as they will go and are heard to engage. |
WARNING The battery must be connected with the ignition switched on. If pyrotechnic components (airbag, belt tensioner for example) are inexpertly repaired, this may result in unwanted triggering after connecting the battery. There must not be anyone in the vehicle when connecting the battery. |

| If the airbag warning lamp -K75- indicates a fault following installation, the event recorder must be interrogated, erased and then interrogated again → Vehicle diagnostic tester. |

| The airbag control unit -J234- is connected to earth at the body by way of the housing. |
