Removing and installing glow plugs
Removing and installing glow plugs
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  U/J extension and socket, 10 mm -3220-
  W00-0329
t  Pliers -3314-
t  Safety goggles
Removing
–  Switch off ignition.
–  Pull off engine cover panel → Chapter.
–  Clean glow plug opening to make sure no dirt gets into cylinders.
–  Use a vacuum cleaner to remove coarse dirt.
–  Spray glow plug opening with brake cleaner and wait for it to take effect.
  WARNING
Protect eyes against injuries.
Wear safety goggles.
–  Blow out glow plug opening with compressed air and then clean glow plug opening with an oily cloth.

–  Release fasteners -arrows- of wiring duct and move clear wiring harness.

  Caution
Risk of damage to support sleeves.
Use pliers -3314- to remove glow plug connectors, squeezing just enough to grasp the collar of the support sleeve securely without damaging it.
–  Apply groove -arrow A- of pliers -3314- to collar of support sleeve -arrow B- as shown in illustration.

–  Carefully detach glow plug connectors from glow plugs -arrow-.
–  Loosen glow plugs using U/J extension and socket, 10 mm -3220- and unscrew by hand.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:
l  Tightening torque → Chapter „Glow plugs, Hall sender, engine speed sender - exploded view“
–  When reconnecting, check that glow plug connectors are securely seated.
