Removing and installing airbag steering wheel

Removing
–  Move steering wheel upwards and rearwards as far as possible, using the full range of the steering column adjuster.
–  Remove airbag unit -2- → Rep. gr.69.
–  Turn wheels to straight ahead position.
  Note
The steering must be in the centre position (wheels straight-ahead) when the steering wheel is removed and installed.

–  Remove bolt -1-.
–  Mark position of steering wheel relative to steering column with a felt-tipped pen.
–  Pull steering wheel off steering column.
Installing
Installation is performed in reverse sequence; note the following:
Tightening torque → Chapter „Airbag steering wheel - exploded view“
Before fitting steering wheel, make sure wheels are in straight ahead position.
–  When installing a steering wheel that has been removed, make sure that the markings on the steering column and steering wheel are in line.
–  If installing new steering wheel (no marks): Steering wheel must be mounted in centre position (spoke horizontal and wheels in straight-ahead position).
–  Guide connector for steering angle sender -G85- into opening provided in base of steering wheel.
–  Install steering wheel.
–  Install airbag unit → Rep. gr.69.
–  Road-test vehicle.
–  If the steering wheel is not correctly centred, it must be removed again and re-fitted onto the splines of the steering column.
