Removing –  Cover the driver’s and passenger’s seats with protective covers. –  Switch on the ignition. –  In vehicles with electrically adjustable seats, move them back as far as possible before disconnecting the battery -A-. –  Switch off the ignition. –  Remove the fresh-air intake duct in the engine compartment for the heater → Chapter –  Open the sealing cap of the coolant expansion tank.

–  Mark the positions of the coolant hoses -A- and -B-. –  Pinch off the coolant hoses to the heat exchanger using hose clamps up to Ø 25 mm -VAS 3094- and detach these hoses.

–  Attach a length of hose onto the connection -B- and place a container underneath the other end of this hose. –  Use a compressed air gun to carefully blow the coolant out of the heat exchanger through connection -A- (into the container). –  Remove the driver's storage compartment and the glove box: → General Body Repairs, Interior; Repair group 68; Storage Compartments/Covers –  Remove the centre console and the gearshift mechanism → General Body Repairs, Interior; Repair group 68; Storage Compartments/Covers and the → relevant Workshop Manual, Gearbox

–  Remove the bolts -B- and the dash panel supports -A- completely → General Body Repairs, Interior; Repair group 70; Dash panel –  Disconnect the additional heater earth connection on the “A” pillar on the right (if present). → Electrical System; Repair group 01

–  Unplug the connector -A- (if present). –  Remove the bolt -C- (if present). –  Remove the rear heating duct (if present). –  Remove the accelerator pedal module. → Relevant Workshop Manual, Fuel System; Repair group 20 –  Remove the condensation drain hose (only in vehicles with air conditioning) → Chapter

–  Remove the clips -A-. –  Remove the bottom part of the air duct housing -B- (with the heating element for additional heater -Z35-) in the direction of the arrow → Chapter).

–  Remove the clips -A-. –  Remove the heat exchanger -B- in direction of arrow
