Exhaust gas recirculation system for vehicles with engine code letters ATL - exploded view
  Note
t  The exhaust gas recirculation system is activated by the engine control unit via the exhaust gas recirculation valve -N18- and the mechanical exhaust gas recirculation valve.
t  The exhaust gas recirculation is switched off after approx. 2 minutes at idling speed.
t  To further improve the exhaust emission values, the exhaust gas recirculation system is equipped with a cooler that is connected into the engine cooling system.
t  The flow of exhaust gas that is recirculated to the combustion chamber is routed via this cooler. This reduces the temperature of the exhaust gas, which lowers the temperature in the combustion chamber and improves the exhaust emission values.
