ESP fault table
Fault table
Notes on fault table
-
◆ On account of the interlinking of control units by way of a data bus wire, always start fault-finding by implementing "Automatic test sequence" with key function 0 and 0 for all control units in the vehicle so as to interrogate their fault memories.
-
◆ Listed in the following in ascending order of 5-digit fault codes are all the faults which can be detected by the ABS with EDL control unit -J104 and printed out on V.A.G 1551 or VAS 5051.
-
◆ If faults only occur intermittently or if fault memory is not erased after fault elimination, such faults are displayed for a specified period as being "sporadic faults" -SP- => ABS with EDL control unit -J104 fault recognition, Page 01-155.
-
◆ The fault code only appears on the printout (in "Rapid data transfer" mode).

-
◆ The three-digit fault type code next to the fault code is a data code which can be ignored. Use is however to be made of the text relating to the type of fault.
-
◆ The "Fault remedy" column makes reference to the individual test steps in the electrical check.
-
◆ Before replacing components shown to be faulty, use current flow diagram to check all corresponding connectors, wires and earth connections.
-
◆ On completion of repairs, always interrogate fault memory again with fault reader V.A.G 1551 or VAS 5051, erase it and perform test drive (at more than 20 km/h).
-
◆ Always interrogate fault memory again after completing test drive.

No faults detected
|
Self-diagnosis is over if "No faults detected" appears on completion of repair work.
|
|
Proceed as follows if ABS/ESP does not function properly despite "No faults detected" appearing on display or if ESP warning lamp lights:
|
|
1. Perform test drive at more than 20 km/h.
|
|
2. Interrogate fault memory again; if there is still no fault stored:
|
|
3. Continue fault-finding without self-diagnosis and work through entire electrical check .
