Removing and installing lock cylinder
Removing and installing lock cylinder
  Note
t  The immobilizer reading coil is attached to the lock cylinder and cannot be replaced separately.
t  The lock cylinder must be replaced if the reading coil is defective.
t  When renewing the lock cylinder, observe the requirements for the reader coil of the immobilizer → Electrical system; General information; Rep. Gr.96.
   
Removing
–  Remove steering column switch → Chapter.
–  Detach electrical connector at reader coil.
Audi A2 “3 l”:
–  Shift selector lever to “STOP” position.
–  Turn ignition key to “Ignition ON” position -arrow-.
–  Then lift interlock lever -1- slightly and pull locking cable -2- out of ignition lock housing.

All models:
  Note
The spare key with no light or remote control function is required for removing the lock cylinder, as the removal operation can only be performed using a key with a flat grip.
–  Turn spare key to “Ignition ON” position, aligning recess in trim -arrow- with hole in ignition lock.
  Note
For ease of illustration, the correct lock position is shown without ignition key.

–  Insert the steel wire or pin -1- ( Ø approx. 1.5 mm) as far as it will go in the hole and in doing so pull the lock cylinder -2- with the reading coil out of the steering lock housing -3-.
  WARNING
Never operate the steering lock without lock cylinder, as this would lead to total blocking. A blocked steering lock must be replaced.
  Note
When renewing the lock cylinder, observe the requirements for the reader coil of the immobilizer → Electrical system; General information; Rep. Gr.96.

Installing
Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:
–  Insert the spare key in the lock cylinder and turn the key to the “ignition ON” position.
–  Re-insert steel wire/pin -1- in hole on end face as far as it will go.
–  Slide the lock cylinder -2- with the reading coil into the steering lock housing -3-.
–  Then pull out the steel wire and firmly press in the lock cylinder until the catch is heard to engage.
–  Plug in the connector at the immobilizer reading coil.

Audi A2 “3 l”:
–  Turn the ignition key to the “ignition ON” position.
–  Guide the interlock cable -2- into the ignition lock housing until it is heard to engage.
l  The interlock lever -1- must make flush contact with the ignition lock housing.
All models:
–  Fit the steering column switch → Anchor.
