Adaption following replacement of dash panel insert

Notes:

  • ◆ The dash panel insert (immobilizer) is adapted to the engine control unit. Re-adaption to the engine control unit must be performed if the dash panel insert is replaced.
  • ◆ After adapting dash panel insert to engine control unit, vehicle key matching is required .
  • ◆ Adaption can be terminated by pressing "C" key on V.A.G 1551.

Requirements:

  • ‒ Insert old (authorised) ignition key in ignition lock and switch on ignition.
  • ‒ If no authorised ignition key is available, new ones must be made and matched after "Adaption following replacement of dash panel insert".
  • ‒ Connect up fault reader V.A.G. 1551 and start engine electronics self-diagnosis with address word "01".

With 14-position identification number of engine control unit, PIN number must be determined by way of direct system interrogation (as for direct interrogation of radio code).

The PIN number is intended for internal use only and is not to be divulged to customers.

Replacement dash panel inserts already have a 14-position identification number (required if dash panel insert and engine control unit are replaced at the same time). This is however overwritten on adapting dash panel insert to engine control unit.

Note:

If an old dash panel insert is to be fitted, this must first be released by means of a login procedure . The appropriate PIN number has to be determined from the14-position identification number of the old dash panel insert. Proceed as follows after successful completion of login:

  • ‒ Enter previously determined PIN number (of engine control unit) with a 0 before the 4-digit number (e.g. 01915).
  • ‒ "Disabled 10" appears on tester display if PIN number is entered incorrectly three times. This disabled time can also be displayed in measured value block 24 (position 2). Adaption is now disabled for 10 minutes. Time is doubled up to max. 255 minutes after every 3 further incorrect attempts.
  • ‒ Confirm entry with Q key.

If PIN number has been entered correctly, chassis number of vehicle appears on tester display after a waiting time of approx. 4 seconds and fault lamp in dash panel insert lights.

The following messages may be displayed if a fault occurs during adaption:

 
→ CAN bus not available or engine speed detected (adaption only possible with engine stopped)

→ Engine control unit cannot supply data (chassis number, 14-position identification number), as control unit is brand new or data available are incorrect

Fault lamp in dash panel insert goes out on successful completion of adaption and a brief confirmation signal is given (lamp off for 0.5 s, lamp on for 0.5 s, lamp off).
