Brake Bleeding: Service and Repair

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
‹› Brake filler/bleeder unit (VAS 5234)
Procedure

Connect brake filler/bleeder unit (VAS 5234).

Remove protective cap from brake caliper bleeder screw and connect bleeder bottle hose to bleeder screw.
Bleeding sequence

Left front brake caliper
2
Right front brake caliper
3
Left rear brake caliper
4
Right rear brake caliper

Leave bleeder screw open, with brake fluid hose connected, until brake fluid flows out clear and free of air bubbles.

To support bleeding procedure, press brake pedal 5 times.

Tighten bleeder screw to 10 Nm, pull off bleeder hose and place protective cap onto bleeder screw.

Repeat bleeding procedure in specified sequence on remaining brake calipers.

Fill brake fluid reservoir, under consideration of brake pad wear, up to max marking and screw on sealing cap.

Start engine and test brake pedal travel and brake pedal pressure.

If brake pedal travel is too far, check brake system for leaks and/or repeat bleeding procedure.
After bleeding brake system, a zero-setting of Brake Pressure Sensor 1 (G201)
Diagnostic Operation System (VAS5051A ). => Diagnostic Operation System (VAS5051A) in the function "Guided Fault Finding".
A test drive must be carried out after the brakes have been bled. During this, at least one ABS regulation must be performed at all four wheels!
