Communications Control Module: Description and Operation

General Information 

The Data Bus On Board Diagnostic Interface J533 serves as a junction for all CAN-Bus control modules with On Board Diagnostic (OBD) capabilities,
and a common connection to the Data Link Connector (DLC). 

The Data Bus On Board Diagnostic Interface J533 interlinks the various CAN-Bus systems in the vehicle. For example, it transfers data from Motronic
Engine Control Module (ECM) J220 via the Powertrain CAN-Bus to the Instrument Cluster Control Module J285

Before troubleshooting or servicing, technicians must be familiar with the functions and operation specifics of the Data Bus On Board Diagnostic
Interface and vehicle CAN Data Bus systems.
