If the steering wheel that will be removed should be re-installed, then mark position of steering wheel to steering column.

Remove steering wheel - 2 -.

Installing

When installing steering wheel, wheels must be in straight-ahead position.

Position steering wheel - 2 -:

‹› When installing steering wheel that was removed: make sure the markings on the steering column and the steering wheel align with each other.

‹› When installing a new steering wheel (without marking): steering wheel must be positioned in center position (steering wheel spokes must be

horizontal and wheels in straight-ahead position).

Install new hex socket head bolt - 9 - and tighten to specified torque.

‹› Ensure wires in steering wheel are routed correctly. Refer to => See: Clockspring Assembly / Spiral Cable/Service and Repair/Steering Column

Switch Module 

-

Connect contact unit connector - 5 - to contact unit on return spring with slip ring - 1 -.

-

Lock contact unit connector - 5 -.

-

Install airbag unit - 7 -: Steering wheel without multi-function, without Tiptronic. Refer to => [ Driver Side Airbag Unit, 4-Spoke Steering Wheel ]
, steering wheel with multi-function and multi-function with Tiptronic. Refer to => [ Driver Side Airbag Unit, 4-Spoke Steering Wheel with
Multi-Function and Tiptronic ].

Perform test drive.

If steering wheel is crooked, remove again and place on steering column splines.
