Clutch does not engage smoothly
Condition
The clutch does not engage smoothly after the vehicle is parked for an extended period of time. Cool, wet weather can contribute to this condition. After
the clutch is engaged a few times, the light corrosion wears off and the clutch engages smoothly.
Technical Background
If the vehicle is parked for a period of time, light corrosion may form on the friction surfaces of the pressure plate and flywheel. When first driving away,
this light corrosion can cause the clutch to not engage smoothly.
If the clutch slips, heat is generated on the clutch friction surfaces. If the clutch plate surface reaches a temperature over 300°C, the clutch fails to engage
smoothly. As soon as the clutch cools down, it engages smoothly. This is also normal.
Production Solution
No change.
Service
Do not attempt to repair. This condition is normal.
Warranty
A warranty repair is not required. Claims will be debited.
