Dismantling and assembling gearbox > < Removing and installing bevel box with gearbox installed

A3 Mk1

Checking gear oil level in manual gearbox with bevel box and filling up.
Checking gear oil level in manual gearbox with bevel box and filling up.
  Note
Gearbox and bevel box are filled together through the oil filler hole in the gearbox.
   
Procedure
–  Remove screw plug -arrow-.
l  Specification: oil level up to lower edge of filler hole
–  Top up gearbox oil if necessary. Specification → Chapter.
–  Fit a new screw plug.
Adhere to the following procedure when filling new bevel box with gear oil or when re-filling bevel box after removing and installing.
–  Remove screw plug -arrow-.
–  Fill gear oil up to lower edge of filler hole.
–  Install screw plug.
–  Start engine, engage a gear and allow gearbox to turn for approx. 2 minutes.
–  Turn off engine and remove screw plug.
–  Fill gear oil up to lower edge of filler hole once again.
–  Fit a new screw plug.
