1 - Air conditioning unit with evaporator
q   Only to be removed after draining the refrigerant circuit; the vehicle is to be taken to a workshop equipped with the necessary tools where the work can be performed by appropriately qualified personnel → Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a.
q   Removing and installing air conditioning unit → Chapter
q   Dismantling and assembling air conditioning unit → Chapter
q   Cleaning evaporator of air conditioner with ultrasonic A/C cleaner -VAS 6189- → Chapter
2 - Defroster flap control motor -V107-
q   With potentiometer for defroster flap control motor -G135-
q   Lever colour code: blue
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
  Note
On right-hand drive vehicles, this control motor is attached to the right of the air distribution housing.
3 - Left footwell vent temperature sender -G261-
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
4 - Centre flap control motor -V70-
q   With potentiometer for centre flap servomotor -G112-
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
5 - Supplementary air heater element -Z35- with supplementary air heater control unit -J604-
q   There are different versions of the electric supplementary air heater. On vehicles with diesel engine manufactured up to November 2006 (gradual conversion), the supplementary air heater element -Z35- is actuated by way of the supplementary air heater control unit -J604- → "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051. Vehicles with diesel engine manufactured as of November 2006 (gradual conversion) are fitted with a 3-stage supplementary air heater element -Z35- which is actuated by the corresponding engine control unit via a relay → "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 and → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations.
q   Vehicles with diesel engine and „auxiliary heater“ optional extra are currently also fitted with a supplementary air heater element -Z35-. At a later date (introduction not yet finalised), the supplementary air heater element -Z35- is to be discontinued on these vehicles. The „auxiliary heater“ will then assume the function of the „supplementary heater“ → Auxiliary heater; Rep. gr.82.
q   Checking operation of supplementary air heater control unit -J604-, guided fault-finding procedure → "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
6 - Heating system heat exchanger
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
7 - Left temperature flap control motor -V158-
q   With potentiometer for left temperature flap control motor -G220-
q   Lever colour code: white
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
q   This control motor has a different designation in the guided fault-finding routine and current flow diagram for vehicles with manually and automatically controlled air conditioner → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
q   On vehicles with manually controlled air conditioner, this control motor actuates both temperature flaps (the right and left temperature flaps are linked by way of the shaft). On vehicles with automatically controlled air conditioner, the left and right temperature flaps are actuated by separate control motors.
8 - Air flow flap control motor -V71-
q   With potentiometer for air flow flap control motor -G113-
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
  Note
The air flow flap control motor -V71- is being gradually discontinued at the end of Model Year 2007. On vehicles with no air flow flap control motor -V71-, the air flow flap (fresh air flap) is actuated by way of a cam plate and lever by the air recirculation flap control motor -V113- → Chapter. Attention is therefore to be paid to correct assignment of the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-. If assignment or adaption is not OK, this is detected during basic setting and stored as a fault → Electronic parts catalogue and → "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
9 - Air recirculation flap control motor -V113-
q   With potentiometer for air recirculation flap control motor -G143-
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
q   Different versions of air recirculation flap control motor -V113- for vehicles with manually and automatically controlled air conditioner → Electronic parts catalogue
q   Different versions of air recirculation flap control motor -V113- for vehicles with automatically controlled air conditioner, with and without air flow flap control motor -V71- (refer to item „7“) and → Electronic parts catalogue
10 - Right footwell vent temperature sender -G262-
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
11 - Intake housing with air recirculation and air flow flap (fresh-air flap)
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
12 - Fresh air intake duct temperature sensor -G89-
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
  Note
t  As of Model Year 2006, the fresh air intake duct temperature sensor -G89- is being gradually discontinued. Vehicles with no such temperature sensor are only to be fitted with operating and display units, Climatronic control unit -J255- with part number as of index „M“.
t  An entry is made in the event recorder if vehicles with no fresh air intake duct temperature sensor -G89- are fitted with an operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- with part number up to index „L“.
13 - Fresh air blower control unit -J126- and fresh air blower -V2-
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
q   Different versions, as of Model Year 2007 the fresh air blower control unit -J126- and the fresh air blower -V2- can each be replaced separately (gradual introduction) → Chapter and → Electronic parts catalogue.
q   The fresh air blower -V2- has an integrated fresh air blower control unit -J126-.
q   Checking → "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051
14 - Dust and pollen filter
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
q   Heed replacement intervals → Maintenance tables
q   Different versions of the dust and pollen filter are available as replacement part (with and without activated charcoal element) → Electronic parts catalogue.
q   Notes on version with activated charcoal element → Chapter
15 - Evaporator output temperature sender -G263-
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
16 - Right temperature flap control motor -V159-

q   Removing and installing → Chapter
17 - Coolant pipes to heat exchanger
18 - Grommet
q   For sealing opening for coolant and refrigerant lines through bulkhead to engine compartment
q   A foam spacer is fitted between the grommet and the air conditioning unit.
q   Installing → Chapter
19 - Connection for condensation drain
q   Checking condensation drain, removing and installing condensation drain hose → Chapter
20 - Expansion valve
q   Detaching and attaching refrigerant lines → Chapter
q   Removing and installing → Chapter.
  Note
After switching off the air conditioner compressor, a relatively long period may elapse with this vehicle before the pressure on the high-pressure end decreases (the expansion valve is cold and the pressure on the low-pressure end increases rapidly after switch-off, the expansion valve closes and the refrigerant can only flow slowly to the low-pressure end).
