Renewing crankshaft oil seal (pulley end) - vehicles up to 11.2004

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	Oil seal extractor -3203-

t	Fitting sleeves -3266-

t	Assembly tool -T10053-

t	Locking pin -T10060 A-

t	Counterhold tool -T10069-

Procedure   Note Before removing, mark direction of rotation of poly V-belt with chalk or felt-tipped pen. If the belt runs in the opposite direction when it is refitted, this can cause breakage. –  Turn tensioner in direction of -arrow- to slacken poly V-belt and lock in position with locking pin -T10060 A-.

–  Remove centre noise insulation -fasteners 1 ... 3-.

–  Remove noise insulation (right-side) -fasteners 1 ... 3-. –  Remove poly V-belt from pulley for vibration damper.

–  Unscrew bolt for vibration damper (use counterhold -T10069-).

–  Unscrew inner section of oil seal extractor -3203- 3 turns (approx. 4 mm) out of outer section and lock with knurled screw. –  Lubricate threaded head of oil seal extractor, place it in position and screw it into oil seal as far as possible (applying firm pressure). –  Loosen knurled screw and turn inner part against crankshaft until the oil seal is pulled out. –  Clamp flats of oil seal extractor in vice. Remove oil seal with pliers. –  Clean running surface and sealing surface.   Note Do not lubricate the oil seal before installing.

–  Place guide sleeve -T10053/1- onto crankshaft journal. –  Push oil seal carefully over the guide sleeve onto the crankshaft journal as far as possible. –  Detach guide sleeve.

–  Press the oil seal in as far as the stop using the old securing bolt -1- for vibration damper and the fitting sleeve from -3266-. –  Install vibration damper with new securing bolt → Chapter. –  Install poly V-belt → Chapter.
