t  U/J extension and socket, 10 mm -3220- for engine codes CBAA, CBAB, CBBB

Glow plug versions
1 - Glow plug with combustion chamber pressure sender (only installed on vehicles with engine code CBEA)
2 - Glow plug without combustion chamber pressure sender
  Note
t  On vehicles with engine code CBEA, a combustion chamber pressure sender is integrated in each glow plug.
t  Designation: glow plug 1 -Q10- with internal cylinder pressure sender for cylinder 1 -G620-
t  Designation: glow plug 2 -Q11- with internal cylinder pressure sender for cylinder 2 -G621-
t  Designation: glow plug 3 -Q12- with internal cylinder pressure sender for cylinder 3 -G622-
t  Designation: glow plug 4 -Q13- with internal cylinder pressure sender for cylinder 4 -G623-
Removing
–  Switch off ignition.
–  Remove engine cover panel → Chapter.
  Caution
Make sure that no wire connection is damaged when unplugging the glow plug connectors; otherwise the entire wiring harness must be renewed.
When unplugging the glow plug connectors, do not compress the pliers -3314- with too much force so that the support sleeve is not damaged.

–  Release retaining clips and move clear wiring harness -2-.

–  Apply groove -arrow A- of pliers -3314- to collar of support sleeve -arrow B- and pull glow plug connectors off glow plugs.
–  Clean glow plug openings in cylinder head; make sure no dirt gets into cylinder.
  Note
t  Cleaning procedure:
t  Use a vacuum cleaner to remove coarse dirt.
t  Spray brake cleaner or suitable cleaning agent into glow plug openings, let it work in briefly, and blow out with compressed air.
t  Then clean the glow plug openings using a cloth moistened with oil.

–  To slacken the glow plugs use special tool U/J extension and socket, 10 mm -3220-.

  W00-0329
For vehicles with engine code CBEA, use socket insert AF 12 for glow plugs 4-cyl.TDI CR diesel -VAS 6454- to slacken the glow plugs.
Installing
–  Use a suitable torque wrench to tighten glow plugs.
–  Then tighten glow plugs to specified torque.
l  Tightening torque: 17 Nm

–  Fit glow plug connectors back onto glow plugs.
