Oil Pressure Sender: Testing and Inspection

Oil Pressure and Oil Pressure Switch, Checking

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Oil Pressure Gauge (V.A.G 1342)

‹› Voltage Tester (V.A.G 1527 B)

‹› Connector Test Set (V.A.G 1594 C)

Test Prerequisites

‹› Engine oil level OK.

‹› The oil pressure warning lamp must light up for approximately 3 seconds when the ignition is switched on.

‹› On vehicles with Auto-Check-System, the indicator "O.K." must light up (check symbol).

‹› Engine oil temperature at least 80 °C / 176 °F (radiator fan must start up once).

‹› Function test and servicing the optical and acoustic oil pressure indicator: wiring diagrams, "Function and Component Selection". 

Test Sequence

‹› Tightening specifications. Refer to => [ Oil Filter and Oil Cooler Assembly Overview ] See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust/Engine/Engine

Lubrication/Oil Cooler/Service and Repair/Oil Filter and Oil Cooler Assembly Overview.

Remove the Oil Pressure Switch (F1) and install it in the tester.

-

Thread oil pressure gauge into oil filter bracket in place of oil pressure switch.

Connect brown wire of tester to Ground (GND).

Connect Voltage Tester (V.A.G 1527 B) using adapter cables from Connector Test Set (V.A.G 1594 C) to battery B+ and Oil Pressure Switch
(F1). LED must not light up.

If the LED comes on, replace the Oil Pressure Switch (F1).

If the LED does not light up:

Start the engine and let it run at a high engine speed: At 1.2 to 1.6 bar pressure, the LED must light up. If it does not, replace the Oil Pressure
Switch (F1). Increase the engine speed. The oil pressure should be between 2.7 and 4.5 bar at 2,000 RPM and oil temperature 80 °C / 176 °F.
