Brake System, Bleeding

CAUTION!
‹› Do not, under any circumstances, allow brake fluid to come into contact with any fluids containing mineral oil (oil, gasoline, cleaning

solvents). Mineral oil damages the sealing plugs and boots of the brake system.

‹› Brake fluid is poisonous and must never be extracted by mouth using a hose! Also due to its corrosive effect, brake fluid must not

come into contact with paint work.

‹› Brake fluid is hygroscopic, which means it absorbs moisture from the ambient air and should always be stored in air tight containers.

‹› Observe disposal regulations.

System must be pre-bled when a chamber in the brake fluid reservoir is completely empty (e.g. brake system leaking) => [ Pre-bleeding ] See: Brake

Then the hydraulic unit must be bled using Diagnostic Operation System (VAS5051A) in function "04 - Basic setting " => [ Brake System, Bleeding if

When filling with brake fluid using brake filler/bleeder unit (VAS 5234), make sure that the filling pressure does not exceed 1 bar.

If filling pressure is greater than 1 bar, a hydraulically actuated valve for EDL regulation prevents the EDL-specific areas of the hydraulic unit from
being completely flushed. It can not be guaranteed that the bleeding procedure will be effective.

Therefore the brake fluid pressure of brake filler/bleeder unit must be regulated down to 1 bar. => Operating instructions VAS 5234

‹› Only use new brake fluid with the part no. B 000 700 A (in bundles of 0.25 to 30 liters).

‹› Rinse off spillages, by using plenty of water.
