Brake System, Bleeding if Brake Fluid Reservoir is Empty

‹› Brake filler/bleeder unit (VAS 5234)

‹› Diagnostic Operation System (VAS5051A)

When filling with brake fluid using brake charger/bleeder unit (VAS 5234) , make sure that the filling pressure does not exceed 1 bar.

If the filling pressure is greater than 1 bar, a hydraulically actuated valve for EDL regulation prevents the EDL-specific areas of the hydraulic unit
from being completely flushed. It can not be guaranteed that the bleeding procedure will be effective.

Therefore the brake fluid pressure of brake filler/bleeder unit must be regulated down to 1 bar. => Operating instructions VAS 5234

The brake filler/bleeder unit bleeder hose (V.A.G 1238 B) is not intended for bleeding the brake system during the function "start basic setting".

If this device is available for use, bleeder hose ( V.A.G 1238 B) must be switched on and off at brake filler/bleeder unit to ensure that there is always
enough brake fluid in the brake fluid reservoir.

‹› Diagnostic Operation System (VAS5051A) connected, vehicle On-Board Diagnostics and vehicle system "03 - Brake electronics " selected.

Diagnostic Operation System (VAS5051A ). => Diagnostic Operation System (VAS5051A) in the function "Guided Fault Finding".

Pre-bleeding

-

Connect brake filler/bleeder unit (VAS 5234).

Open bleeder valves in specified order and pre-bleed brake calipers.

Bleed left front and right front brake calipers simultaneously

Bleed left rear and right rear brake calipers simultaneously

Leave bleeder screw open, with brake fluid hose connected, until brake fluid flows out free of air bubbles.

Bleeding

Display on Diagnostic Operation System (VAS5051A ):

In menu - 1 - select diagnostic function " 04 - Basic setting".

‹› During the next work steps, the ABS indicator lamp will flash.
