Steering Wheel

Airbag Unit

Removing

-

Pull steering wheel as far out as possible and up.

-

Turn steering wheel - 6 - to center position (wheels point straight ahead).

-

Disconnect the battery ground wire with the ignition off.

-

Turn steering wheel - 6 - out of center position about 80° right.

-

Remove screw - 9 -.

-

Turn steering wheel - 6 - to center position (wheels point straight ahead).

-

Raise airbag unit - 7 - from steering wheel.

-

Release ignition pill connector (airbag unit connector) -  2 -.

-

Remove ignition pill connector - 2 -.

-

Remove airbag unit - 7 -.

Installing

‹› Make sure the detonator connector and the connector lock -  2 - engage completely (audibly).

‹› Ensure wires are not pinched.

-

Turn steering wheel - 6 - to center position (steering wheel spokes must be horizontal).

-

Place airbag unit - 7 - on lower curve of steering wheel - 6 -.

-

Connect ignition pill connector - 2 - to airbag unit -  7 -. Wire must face upward.

-

Lock ignition pill connector - 2 -. Connector and connector lock must engage completely (audibly).

‹› No wires may contact gas generator.

‹› Ignition pill connector wire must not be pinched.

-

Position airbag unit - 7 - in steering wheel.

‹› Hold airbag unit in position while bolting.

-

Turn steering wheel - 6 - out of center position about 80° right.

-

Install bolt - 9 - approximately 2 turns.

-

Turn steering wheel - 6 - about 160° left.

-

Install bolt - 9 - approximately 2 turns.

-

Tighten bolt - 9 - to specified torque.

CAUTION!
Ignition must be on when connecting battery. If pyrotechnic components (e.g. airbag, belt tensioner) are not repaired correctly, they may
deploy unintentionally after connecting battery. There must not be anyone inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

-

Disconnect the battery ground wire with the ignition switched on.
