Power steering gear, removing and installing

Removing
-

Remove plenum chamber cover.

CAUTION!:  Before beginning repairs on the electrical system:

Obtain the anti-theft radio security code.

^

Switch the ignition off.

^

Disconnect the battery Ground (GND) strap.

^

On vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar, switch-off the emergency (backup) battery for the Telematic/Telephone Control
Module prior to disconnecting vehicle battery.

^

After reconnecting vehicle battery, re-code and check operation of anti-theft radio. Also check operation of clock and power windows
according Owner's Manual.

After reconnecting vehicle battery on vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar, switch-on the emergency (backup) battery for the
Telematic/Telephone Control Module

Remove battery if necessary.

WARNING!  Move steering wheel to center position and do not turn it while performing repair work, as otherwise coil connector of
airbag unit could be damaged.

Pull out ignition key with steering wheel in center position.

-

Move steering wheel slightly to engage steering lock.

-

Removing driver's storage compartment

-

Loosen bolt -arrow-.
Tightening torque: 30 Nm

Secure steering column to stop it sliding apart

Note:

Always install new sealing collar if collar is damaged.

^

Make sure sealing collar is properly positioned.

-

Pinch off suction and return lines with hose clamps -3094-.

-

Unbolt front wheels.
