Front Final Drive Fluid: Procedures

Front Final Drive Gear Oil Level, Checking
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
‹› Socket SW 8 (3247)
‹› Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782 )
‹› Angled hex socket wrench 8 mm
‹› Protective glasses
Test Conditions
‹› Gear oil temperature approximately 60 °C, perform road test if necessary.
‹› Wait 2 minutes after turning off the engine so that the gear oil and flow back into the front final drive.
Procedure
‹› General repair notes. Refer to => [ Repair Information ] .
‹› Observe cleanliness rules when working on automatic transmissions. Refer to => [ Cleanliness Working Conditions ] .

Move the vehicle onto a lifting platform or over a work pit so that it is absolutely level.

Place Used Oil Collection and Extraction Device ( V.A.G 1782) under transmission.
CAUTION!
Wear protective glasses.

Remove oil filler hole sealing plug - arrow - with an angled hex socket wrench 8 mm.
‹› To loosen sealing plug, only use the angled hex socket wrench, not the Socket SW 8 (3247).
‹› If the sealing plug is not accessible enough, loosen heat shield and, if necessary, remove drive axle on transmission and lay aside.
‹› The fluid level must be at the bottom edge of the inspection opening.

Drain off excess gear oil or fill to correct level; for the specification. Refer to => [ Capacities ] .
‹› Sealing plug with sealing ring must be replaced.

Tighten new oil filler hole sealing plug with Socket SW 8 (3247).
