Sealing Ring In Intermediate Flange For Front Final Drive, Replacing

Sealing ring in intermediate flange for front final drive, replacing 

(Transmission installed)

Special tools and equipment

3404 thrust piece

Note:  An inspection opening is provided on the left side of the intermediate flange to check for oil leaks (arrow) for the sealing ring in drive pinion
and the sealing ring in intermediate flange.
If oil escapes at this oil leak inspection opening, this double sealing ring must be replaced.

Removing 

-

Remove center differential.

-

Removing intermediate flange for front final drive.

-

Drive out sealing ring (arrow) in direction of transfer gear using a mandrel.

Installing 

Installation is reverse of removal, noting the following:

Check seal seat in intermediate flange for damage; rework if necessary.

Coat outer edge and sealing lip of oil seal with gear oil.
