Note:

If the vehicle is a 2005 Cabriolet 3.0L in the VIN range of 8H_5K013301 through 8H_5K023482, check the repair history of the vehicle to see if RVU
IU was performed. If the RVU was not performed, first follow instructions in TSB 2018758 Vehicle shudders when accelerating from a standstill - TCM
flash. If the RVU IU was performed, continue with this TSB.

Attach VAS printouts to repair order. Warranty requested documents received without VAS printouts will be denied payment.

Check all systems for faults that may be logged. Address them according to Guided Fault Finding before proceeding.

1. Confirm the concern is not caused by poor quality fuel. With a second technician in the passenger seat with a VAS 5052 monitor, measure value
blocks 20 and 21 in the ECM while reproducing the shuddering condition.

^ If any of the fields show numbers of 4 (positive or negative) or more, try a new tank of 91 or higher octane fuel and recheck for the concern.

If the concern is gone, it has been caused by poor quality or octane rating fuel. Recommend to the customer the exclusive use of TOP TIER
Detergent Gasoline. Reference Technical Service Bulletin 2014753 Gasoline quality in ElsaWeb.

If the concern is still present after the fuel has been changed and the ECM MVB 20 and 21 still show numbers of 4 or more, check for excessive
engine noise and carbon deposits.

If the ECM MVB 20 and 21 read under 4, continue on with the checks in this Technical Service Bulletin.

2. Confirm the engine, transmission and subframe mounts are properly installed and operable.

3. Confirm the radial runout of the wheels and tires is not excessive.

4. Confirm the axles are not worn.

5. Perform the following steps to confirm that the ATF temperature is a minimum of 65°C:

a. In VAS 5051/5052, select Vehicle Self Diagnosis >> 02 - Gearbox electronics >> 08 - Read measuring value block.

b. Input MVB 10 on keypad, select Q to confirm and observe display position 3.

c. ATF must be minimum of 65°C.

6. With the ATF at minimum of 65°C, carefully operate vehicle in an open space (clear of traffic and obstacles) as follows:

a. Accelerate from a stop on a light upgrade with 10 to 30% acceleration displayed in VB 9, position 1.

b. Drive with the hand brake pulled up two notches.

c. After a few yards, the shudder should occur shortly before the clutch engages.

d. After the clutch engages, the shudder goes away.

At a constant speed in Tiptronic 4th gear below 2000 RPM, the shudder may occur every 5 seconds due to clutch control.

At a constant speed in Tiptronic 3rd gear above 2000 RPM, the shudder should not occur.

7. Stop the vehicle.

a. Ensure that the transmission gear oil is at a minimum of 65°C (MVB 10 position 3).

b. Read MVB 12 and calculate the difference between position 1 and position 2. Save a copy of this MVB.

c. Read MVB 10, position 1. Save a copy of this MVB.

d. If MVB 10, position 1 is above 300 mA (2005 and later model years = 350 mA), replace the transmission.

e. If MVB 10, position 1 is below 220 mA (2005 and later model years - below 250 mA), the ATF cooling system may be plugged.

f. Clean the cooling pipes and thoroughly flush out the ATF components.
